SEATTLE AIRPORT : Concrete chemicals and accessories
A highly visible project
A solid reputation, product selection and favorable prices made Dayton Superior the most logical choice.

BACKGROUND:
Almost ten years ago, The Port of Seattle and the FAA, allocated money to build a new parallel runway and taxi ways at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. While the purpose of the project was to keep the airport efficient in virtually any weather condition and reduce flight delays, it would take seven years for the actual construction to get underway. It was the FAA that wrote the specifications for the project and would be the agency authorizing the types of products approved for the project.

CHALLENGE: The scale of the project was huge. Eighty percent of the project would consist of the new runway while construction of the new taxi ways made up the remaining twenty percent. There was no doubt that the project, conducted under the careful watch of the FAA, would draw not only local attention, but considerable state and national attention as well. Quality and budget were major considerations.

SOLUTION: "Despite the long wait, once the specifications were announced and the job went to bid, we were selected as a key supplier for a number of products from our line of AHT Paving Products, said Dayton Superior Paving Specialist Terry Edmundson. "Our ability to provide favorable cost projections, our product selection, and a solid reputation of quality and performance of our AHT Paving Products earned us a crucial role in this highly visible project."

Two vital components utilized during construction to facilitate optimal runway performance were 12" basket stakes and smooth painted, techtyl 1.5" x 20" dowel bar. In addition dowel baskets and Fiber Expansion Joint, which is an asphalt impregnated fiber used for joints between asphalt and concrete, were also employed.  After concrete was poured, Dayton Superior also provided the Type II, Class B Cure.  Gary Merlino Construction served as the project's paver.  Our full service distributor, Mason's Supply, based in Woodenville, Washington, supplied all the paving materials.

The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport's new 8,500' long, 150' wide runway and adjoining taxi ways were completed in December, 2007.
